It is not clear in this image, but other images show the text on the sign placed on the left side bridge support
that warns people to walk the horses over the bridge.
Galloping horses on the bridge would be damaging to the structure.
The roadbed is dirt. The bridge is made of wood with stone support.
There are also trolley tracks embedded into the road. This is the view is looking toward Fairhaven. (click the picture for a larger image)
