St. Anthony church was a french speaking parish built in the north end of the city.
It was the second french speaking (predominantly French-Canadian) parish in New Bedford after Sacred Heart church on Summer, and Robeson streets proved to be too far for many of the French speaking residents of the north end of New Bedford. Click the picture below for an enlargement
