The Union Street Railway
Served New Bedford and the outlying communities for many years until buses came to replace them.
Many older residents fondly remember riding the trolleys.
In this picture (enlarge it for detail) you can see that the cars are at Fort Rodman (Fort Taber) near the beaches and Acushnet Park in the South End, the return or destination is Acushnet Park in the south end for trolley #283 and Lunds Corner for trolley # 601.

In the photo taken June 16, 1940, the grass is green, and you can almost smell the summer air with a whiff of the salty sea nearby.
