The "NEELIA" a luxury yacht belonging to prominent New Bedford businessman
Thomas Kearns.
It was having its vessel's electrical system rebuilt after
the '38 Hurricane.
This yacht was made famous as she washed ashore at
Marine Park in the '38 Hurricane.
Docked at Union Wharf, Fairhaven in
1940, workers set off a spark that ignited fumes in the bilges.
The
vessel exploded and sank at the dock.
